Next meeting!

Our next meeting will be this upcoming Wednesday, 6:30pm-9pm at Real Art Ways. Now that the sun sets later, we may have to go on a walk :)

Did everyone like the bag of clementines last time? If so, I'll bring another one.

Remember to think outside the box!

Meeting Thursday - has been canceled

The next couple weeks are going to be rough for me to organize due to my impeding collegiate graduation and being short handed at work. But meetings should still go on with out me!

Oh and I finished this lil guy. Meh... it was an experiment, one I'll probably never make again! He's cute in his own weird vicious way.

Cool Things

As promised, here's some inspiration:

Love books? Love gardening? Well here's one for you. Koshi Kawachi from Tokyo, Japan created her "Manga Farming" series combining radish seeds and Manga books. I can only image what a back yard would look like as a plant library!

An artist collective by the name of Evoltaste has been blowing up the interwebs with their fancy European tour of urban building stencils on transformers and other dull grey structures. These were done in only 3 layers. Check out their other work!

Eva Marguerre and Marcel Besau created these amazing baskets out of elastic yarn and resin. Read more about their process here.

One of those weeks...

Hey guys,

Sadly I can attend no meeting this week. My coworker has injured himself and I must fill in for a couple days. RAW is occupied of Thursday, but if anyone else would like to host a meeting Wednesday I could pop in and out. Or if it's a nice day, don't feel too guilty about going to the park without me!

I'm going to post some cool things tomorrow. Hartford's got me exhausted.

Buffalo Gals go 'round the outside...

I started to put together this post to mention the passing ofMalcolm McLaren

He was not only a big inspiration to me, his former partner, Vivienne Westwood, is where I took my tag name. I have, up until the last couple of years, felt like an outsider a lot of the time. Seeing what they were putting out into the world made me feel like it was o.k. to keep doing what I was doing.

As I read more about Malcolm, I found that he was interested in a movement called the Situationist International

As I read more (which I tend to do, get a little nutty about a subject and read as much as I can), the article gives examples of people who are doing things in the spirit of the SI. Then I see Banksy mentioned. A friend I talked to earlier in the day suggested I do a tag with a Banksy slogan. All of this has been swirling around in my head until I could get here and share my swirls with you.

So I just want to say, Thank you Malcolm. And I will keep doing what I do. And I will think of you while I'm doing it.

The Gas We Pass

Whether in your home or in your pants, we've all got gas. Odds are you've also seen this, but if you haven't you must!

Spread the warmth

Vivi de La Laine et moi ventured over to Elizibeth Park today. Amongst the rose garden we sat, knit, ate popsicles, and giggled at boys. Sounds thanks to the CD collection of Coexist, one of Dubbage CT's various DJ's. GOOD TIMES!

Next Meeting?

I'm thinking about having it on Thursday, the sunniest and warmest day of the week. To gain maximum sunshine/warmth exposure I would like to meet earlier.

Does 4pm work for everyone?

Many faces of fibers

As of now, the piece in Day Park still stands. But someone managed to rip down half a tag on one leg of the sign on Capitol & Arbor. Oh well, we have pictures!

I still haven't found a place for my little dude, and I'm totally open for suggestions. I have another almost done, it's a little bigger this time. Pictures in a few days. ALSO - when should we meet? Actually, if I remember correctly we are again limited to one day this week... I just forgot when that day was, so I'll post that tomorrow.

Here's some inspiration found via NotCot. Nicolas Barreau, a student who has been educated all over the world (and demands permission before using his photos) can be found here. The piece linked is called "Animal Fractal," and portrays the use of man-made fiber outdoors in a more mathematical sense.
"Straight white lines which create curves. A mathematic game that makes the space between the trees usefull : we re-discover the nature's dimensions through a technologic eye.
A giant snail slaver, an Alien net, an insect road."
Shira Keret, another impressive college senior, hails all the way from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Israel. She designed this bench with Hadas Shalem.

I don't know about you, but this gave me a lot of ideas!

In my opinion, I'm saving the best for last. This came out last year, but I think it still needs to be shared. Seems to be the same exact neon acrylic yarn that I have! Oddly creative for a product that never made it big.... I wonder why....
